2015 Peace Day Interfaith Celebration
Building Peace

Please join us for the 5th Annual Peace Day Interfaith Celebration sponsored by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.

hands clasping wrists around an image of the globeThe interfaith community will come together to reflect on building peace on the 70th Anniversary of World War II on Friday, September 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin Temple. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Speakers include Bishop Stephen Randolph Sykes of the Inclusive Orthodox Church, Masago Asai of the Hawaii Council of Religions for Peace, and many others from the interfaith community.

In addition, songs of celebration will be performed by Pacific Buddhist Academy Hyaku Sen Ki Kai Taiko, the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin Choir, and the Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church Choir.

In 2007, Hawaii became the first state to recognize Peace Day. International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The United Nations General Assembly declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.
