The beloved scholar and teacher Rev. Dr. Alfred Bloom passed away on the evening of August 25, 2017, “surrounded by family and several close Dharma friends.”

A funeral service for Dr. Bloom sponsored by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will be held at Hawaii Betsuin on Saturday, September 2, with representatives from each island in attendance. The funeral will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will be officiated by Bishop Eric Matsumoto. The visitation precedes the service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Hawaii Betsuin is located at 1727 Pali Highway in Honolulu (access is from Lusitana Street).
