My Pathway to Jodo Shinshu

Rick Stambul, BCA President-elect

“A personal account of how the struggle for civil rights, and the incarceration of Japanese-Americans led me to Shin Buddhism.” A special presentation by Rick Stambul, President-elect of Buddhist Churches of America.

Mr. Stambul was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. He marched with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and worked in Mississippi to register African-Americans to vote. In the 1980s, he worked as an attorney doing research on the legal team that brought the Coram Nobis Petition to the U.S. Supreme Court seeking redress for the 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-Americans who were incarcerated during the War.
