Hongwanji temple members and friends are invited to march in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on Monday, January 19, 2026.

• Parade groups assemble at Magic Island beginning at 7:30 a.m. The parade begins at 9 a.m.
• PBA Bus: One Pacific Buddhist Academy small school bus will join us in the parade. Ten seats are available from Hawaii Betsuin to the parade at 7 a.m. (and back to Betsuin). Members of the Hongwanji ohana may email webmaster@hawaiibetsuin.org with a seat reservation request.
• The PBA bus will also be an option for a few who prefer to ride than walk during the parade. Thank you, PBA!!
• Some may choose to carpool from the Hawaii Betsuin back parking lot or to hop the #6 city bus (bus stop is on Lusitana at Betsuin).
• Wear your peace shirt, Hongwanji shirt (BWA, PBA, YBA etc.), or anything purple.
• Get creative with signs — or we do have quite a collection of existing signs to use if you like!
  
• We plan to once again pull a cart with a medium-sized kansho! LET FREEDOM RING!!
• Remember Green Hongwanji and bring your own water bottle.
• Wear sunscreen.

The route is through Waikiki to Kapiolani Park, about 2 miles.
