Searching for Mary Foster:
Hawaii’s Buddhist Trailblazer
Patricia Lee Masters will draw on her upcoming book, Searching for Mary Foster (BSC Press), to provide an intimate look at the spiritual journey of an iconic Hawaiian visionary and her influence on Hawaiian Buddhism today.
The story of Mary Elizabeth Mikahala Robinson Foster reveals an enigmatic, secretive, mysterious wealthy kamaaina who had much impact on many people, but is largely unknown and unacknowledged, especially in her home in the Hawaiian Islands? She is acknowledged as among the first Buddhists in Hawaii and amongst Buddhism’s most influential supporters both in Hawaii and Sri Lanka. Come learn about her from Dr. Patricia Masters who has followed Mary Foster’s path for 30 years.
