More About the May 2023 DIALOGUE, from the Organizers

How do we express Shin Buddhist values on important, yet volatile issues affecting our community?

At the March 2023 DIALOGUE, we used the Red Hill water crisis as a case study of the issues involved in creating a statement about a social issue and a jumping off point for talking about activism and Jodo Shinshu. At that meeting, it was noted that over the years the Office of the Bishop had issued a number of social concerns statements that would serve as instructive examples. The readings in preparation for the May meeting will be those statements.

About the DIALOGUE Project

The DIALOGUE Project is a project of Hawaii Betsuin’s Social Concerns Committee in which sangha members and friends are invited to explore social issues with others through a Buddhist lens. DIALOGUE typically meets on the second Thursday of every other month (some exceptions), 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway and/or by Zoom, TBA. All DIALOGUE topics are contributed by participants, all suggestions welcomed!
