More About the March 2023 DIALOGUE, from the Organizers
How do we express Shin Buddhist values on important, yet volatile issues affecting our community?
The Red Hill issue serves as a case in point on dealing with important social issues as a Shin Buddhist organization made up of many individual perspectives. How do we reconcile these different viewpoints and develop a cohesive message about our Shin Buddhist position?
Rev. Yuika Hasebe and Dr. Jon Matsuoka will offer their process of developing a Hawaii Betsuin Statement on the Red Hill Water Crisis. Sharing the process and discussing the differences may help determine how Hawaii Betsuin develops its Social Concerns voice not only on Red Hill, but other social issues that affect our lives.
About the DIALOGUE Project
The DIALOGUE Project is a project of Hawaii Betsuin’s Social Concerns Committee in which sangha members and friends are invited to explore social issues with others through a Buddhist lens. DIALOGUE typically meets on the second Thursday of every other month (some exceptions), 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway and/or by Zoom, TBA. All DIALOGUE topics are contributed by participants, all suggestions welcomed!
