About the Speaker

Professor Carl Becker is Professor of Policy Science at Kyoto University. Hereceived his MA in Comparative Philosophy at UH Manoa’s East-West Center in 1973 and PhD in 1981. He taught at Southern Illinois University, UH Department of Education, Osaka, Tsukuba, and Kyoto National Universities in Japan. Dr. Becker received a decoration from the emperor of Japan in 2009 for his cross-cultural study of bereavement.
