The Honolulu Hongwanji Council invites all temple members and friends to march in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on Monday, January 15, 2024.

MLK 2020 - parade participants holding signs and strings of origami cranes on the parade route

Peace cranes are a big hit with festival-goers. We pass out small ones to children and others along the way.

  • Parade groups assemble at Magic Island beginning at 7:30 a.m. The parade begins at 9 a.m.
  • One PBA bus will be available for those who are not able to walk in the parade. The same bus will have some space to take those who arrive at Betsuin by 7 a.m. to the parade.
  • Some may choose to carpool from the Hawaii Betsuin back parking lot or to hop the #6 city bus (there’s one at 7:11 a.m. and one at 7:41 a.m., $3 fare, bus stop is on Lusitana at Betsuin).
  • Wear your peace shirt, Hongwanji shirt (BWA, PBA, YBA etc.), or anything purple.
  • Get creative with signs.

  • Bring some origami cranes to hand out if you have some.
  • Remember Green Hongwanji and bring your own water bottle.
  • Wear sunscreen.

The route is through Waikiki to Kapiolani Park, about 2 miles.

Temple members, Dharma School students and parents, friends… everyone welcomed!!
What a way to honor the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington!
