About Our Guest Speaker
Rev. Dr. Kenji Akahoshi has served as resident minister at the Buddhist Temple of San Diego since 2013. He is originally from San Jose, California, where he practiced dentistry for over 30 years. In San Jose, he was an active member of the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, both with Dharma School and as an instructor in the temple’s Buddhist Education Center. Dr. Akahoshi holds a master’s degree in transpersonal (spiritual) psychology. While transitioning out of dentistry, he attended the Institute of Buddhist Studies, graduating in 2010. Kenji-sensei received kyoshi status from the Hongwanji in Kyoto in December 2012, and, in September 2014, received his kaikyoshi status as a minister.
