Hawaii Betsuin is pleased to once again offer the opportunity to memorialize your loved ones with one or more traditional paper lanterns to be displayed in the Hondo (main temple) during the Bon season. Ribbons with your loved ones’ names are attached to the lantern.

Order and Display Dates

  • Lantern orders received by Friday, June 19th will be displayed by the Bon Major Service on Sunday, July 5th.
  • You are welcome to order any time through August 2.
  • All lanterns will be displayed through August 16 along the sides of the Hondo interior.

To order a Bon Memorial Lantern online

  1. Fill out the 2026 Bon Memorial Lantern Order Form (a Google form).
  2. Make your payment via our lanterns donation page on PayPal.
    (Online payment fees of $2, $3, and $4 for the 6″, 10″, and 12″ lanterns, respectively, are reflected in the prices noted.)

To order by mail or in person

  1. Print and fill out the 2026 Bon Memorial Lantern Order Form (a PDF file).
  2. Mail the completed form with your check to:

    (You may also fill out a form and make your donation in person at the Hawaii Betsuin business office.)

We will print the family names or individual names you specify on a memorial ribbon that will be tied to the lantern.
