The sutras state, “When we see the water, we can see it as water, but when a hungry ghost sees water, they see it as fire.” Even when we see the same thing, what we can see in it is different.

In difficult circumstances, we tend to see negativities in our lives, however, there is always something to cheer us up. In your kitchen, in your living room or in your garden, if we look carefully and closely, there is always something beautiful and shining.

Imagine that you have a white paper and there is a dot on the paper. If you think of the dot as a stain and think it is disrupting the beautiful paper, you miss the possibility of the whole paper. Even though the paper has the dot, it does not mean the paper is ruined. The dot can be painted as pretty flower seed or beautiful eye. What we see is up to us. Namo Amida Butsu

お経の中に「人は水を水としてみますが、餓鬼は水を火とみる」というお言葉があります。私達も同じものを見ていても、どう見えているかは人それぞれです。

困難な時には、私たちは物事のよくない面を見ることが多くなるようです。しかし、私たちの日々の中には必ず暖かく明るいものがあるはずです。お台所や、リビングルーム、お庭をよく見てみると、きっと美しくきれいなものがあるはずです。

もし、真っ白な紙があって点が書かれているとします。その点をシミとしてみて、紙の綺麗さが損なわれたと思うとしたら、それはこれからその紙に書かれるであろう全ての可能性を捨て去ることになります。白い紙に点があったとしても、それはその紙をだめにするわけではありません。その点は、可愛らしい花の種になるかもしれないし、美しい瞳になるかもしれません。そこに何を見るかは、私たち次第なのです。南無阿弥陀仏
