Join us for six discussion sessions on Shoshinge in late February to early April, 2015.

Registration form » (please register by February 14)

Happiness is a secular value in Buddhism; it is not a goal of Buddhist life, but it is a necessary ingredient in the Shin Buddhist life. Happiness derives from one’s “joy” of being sustained by the Infinite Light (Wisdom) and the Immeasurable Life (Compassion).

Shinran Shonin explains how joy arises in our mind and heart in his text, Shoshinge. We will discuss how, as part of Jodo Shin ethics, we can help ourselves and others to attain happiness out of gratitude.

Join the Betsuin’s chief minister (Rimban) Tatsuo Muneto and other participants for the six-week session on Happiness in Mindfulness – Essence of Shoshinge. We will find out what the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Gyomei Kubose and Takamaro Shigaraki taught about happiness.

Sessions will be held in the Annex Temple of Hawaii Betsuin on six consecutive Fridays starting February 27 (2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, and 4/3).

Text and reading materials will be provided before the sessions start.

The registration fee is $10 and the deadline is February 17.
