Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin held its 2019 Bon Dance the evenings of June 28 and 29. The event included dancing, taiko drumming, fellowship, ono food, shave ice, our “Bontique” shop in the Social Hall, kimono dress-up and photo booth, and temple tours. A brief service in the main temple hall at 5:30 p.m. preceded the opening of the event outdoors.
Bon Dance gives us a chance to express our gratitude to our ancestors, teachers and friends, to show appreciation to them and to express how fortunate we are to be able to listen to the Buddha’s teachings. We celebrate the opportunity that we have to follow the teachings and to embrace them in our daily lives.
