Hawaii Betsuin’s “Let’s Ko” / Everyday Buddhist classes resume January 6, 2026, following a holiday break

In-person participants gather in the Lounge for a “Let’s Ko” / Everyday Buddhist class session.

Hawaii Betsuin has an ongoing Buddhism class in which we watch and discuss “Everyday Buddhist” videos. “Let’s Ko” is our nickname for the program — “Ko” can mean a Buddhist study group of fellow travelers. Everyday Buddhist is an online study program developed at Orange County Buddhist Church, a fellow Jodo Shin Buddhist temple in California.

Our “Let’s Ko” class sessions are offered both in person and on Zoom on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. We meet in the Lounge, which is set up such that Zoom participants can be seen and heard by people in the room and vice-versa. Everyday Buddhist is organized into 36 courses, each with 4-5 videos of about 12 to-18 minutes each. We typically watch two videos in one class, pausing to jointly respond to a simple quiz and then share comments and questions.

Outside of Hawaii Betsuin, individual subscribers to Everyday Buddhist typically watch on their own, using a comment area to leave messages for course instructors. Our innovation is to watch the videos together to allow for some real-time discussion and sangha-building. We have also been experimenting with AI tools to provide supplementary course materials and even the occasional Buddhist teaching song!

Our class sessions are intended primarily for the Hawaii Betsuin ohana, but are not exclusive. To inquire about registering, feel free to email ebfacilitator@hawaiibetsuin.org.

Our agreement with Everyday Buddhist allows us to share the videos only during the class sessions, but you can also subscribe on your own for unlimited access (see box below). Happy trails on the Buddhist path!
