Note: Hawaii Betsuin is a temple of the Jodo Shin Buddhist tradition, which orginated in Japan. We are also a centrally located, “big tent” temple that hosts diverse offerings. One of those is weekly study/meditation sessions with Lama Wangchuk of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Read on to learn more!

Lama Wangchuk strikes a singing bowl in the Annex TempleIt has now been over two years since Hawaii Betsuin opened its beautiful Annex Temple weekly for Lama Wangchuk to offer guided Tibetan meditation. Lama and class participants are deeply grateful for this continued support.

Lama has redesigned his class into a Thursday gathering dedicated to the study and practice of Tibetan Lojong meditation. He hopes to reach a wider audience of those seeking in-depth exploration of Lojong meditation and study.

Lojong is the ancient Buddhist tradition of mind training practiced since the time of the Buddha — for nearly 2600 years. Its purpose is the cultivation of a compassionate heart and an intelligent, awakened mind. Through these practices, we learn to transform difficulties into insight, soften habits, and develop inner stability and kindness.

Please join us Thursday evenings in the Annex Temple starting Jan. 8, 2026. Everyone is welcome.

"Training the Mind" book coverAn optional book study of Training the Mind and Cultivating Loving-Kindness by Chögyam Trungpa precedes the meditation. Come to the book study, meditation or both.

Thursday Schedule
5:30–6:05 PM – Book Study + Q&A
6:15–7:15 PM – Guided Meditation + reflection and Q&A

For more information, you may message Lama Wangchuk at (808) 256-5999.
