Hawaii Betsuin presents its second annual Green Fair on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Social Hall. The event features environmentally themed activities and information displays organized by some of the temple’s affiliated organizations. Members of other temples and the general public are welcome to join us.
This year’s offerings include:- “Got Veggies?” salad sampler & Mini Market by BWA
- an educational display on water conservation and Paiko Lagoon (Girl Scout Brownie Troop 257)
- scoops made from plastic jugs by the Cub Scouts
- a make-and-take recycling project by Dharma School
- Green Team “booth” with sales of bamboo utensil/ohashi sets & Mottainai bags plus an eco-quiz
- EM Hawaii demonstrating EM•1® & EM® Bokashi
Come join us and get your Earth Week started off on a green footing! All are encouraged to bring their own reusable cup (and snack plate) for refreshments. You may bring your own utensils too or buy a reusable bamboo set from the Green Team table. (We’ll have free compostable ones too!)
All are encouraged to attend the 9:30 a.m. service before the Green Fair. By special request, Reverend Sol Kalu will deliver two dharma talks — one for children and one for adults. After the children’s talk, children are excused to the Social Hall for refreshments followed by the all-ages Green Fair.
Please note that on the following Sunday, April 22 (Earth Day), the 10 a.m. service will feature guest speaker Malulani Aluli Meyer addressing the topic of “Hawaiian Buddhism.” See our Earth Day Service calendar item for more information.
