The Three-Petals Partnership representing Buddhist, Catholic, and Quaker traditions will hold a peace walk on Thursday, August 9 from Hawaii Betsuin to the Nagasaki Peace Bell Memorial at Honolulu Hale.

The approximately one-mile walk is intended to promote reflection upon the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan and the 12th anniversary of the 1600-mile pilgrimage of three Buddhist monks to save humanity from the cycle of nuclear destruction.

Those wishing to participate in the walk are invited to gather in the Hawaii Betsuin’s main temple hall prior to welcoming remarks at 5 p.m. The silent walk begins at 5:30 p.m. The event concludes at 6:30 p.m. with an aspiration and ringing of the peace bell.

Prior to the walk, Hawaii Betsuin will host a screening of the film Gate about the Buddhist monks’ pilgrimage to the site of the first atomic bomb test (the Trinity Site in New Mexico). The film screening begins at 3 p.m.
